From beaches to parks, there’s something for everyone this summer in Ocean County, NJ
Whether you live or work in Ocean County or visit or vacation here, you know there's something for everyone during the summer months.
Is it too hot or rainy on a given day? There are plenty of indoor activities to cool off or have fun.
Is it just the perfect beach and boardwalk day or a good one for a nature walk? Ocean County has those opportunities every summer as well to have fun and relax.
Ocean County Commissioner Joe Vicari, liaison to Ocean County Tourism, was a guest on 'Shore Time with Vin and Dave' on Sunday morning on 94.3 The Point and 105.7 The Hawk and discussed some of the great things about summers in Ocean County.
While Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start to summer for many people, some start planning and enjoying the weather when the calendar turns to May or earlier.
"At one time in tourism, it began on Memorial Day, you know when it begins now? Before April 1," Vicari tells Townsquare Media.
During the pandemic, many people working remotely who didn't live in Ocean County full-time came down to their rental properties or second homes figuring they would work remotely from the beach scene in Ocean County if they had to work remotely.
Even still today, if remote is an option, it could bring more people to Ocean County earlier than Memorial Day weekend.
"They can work from home, enjoy Ocean County, their children love it, their families love it -- you know what happens on weekends? Their friends come over, their families come over."
Ocean County provides a good platform to create any number of summer memories with your family and friends as you spend time across the 33 municipalities.
"It's an experience -- it's a great story and it's a great place, and we want everyone to know about it," Vicari said. "Enjoy Ocean County, when you come here, relax, enjoy it, and have good memories."
There are plenty of great places to go out and eat, either on the boardwalks or throughout any of the towns and everything smells so good.
"There are so many different kinds of restaurants over the last several years, it's unbelievable," Vicari said. "So, any type of restaurant you want to go to whether it be a franchise restaurant, a small restaurant -- we have food for anyone that really wants it. We have something for everyone."
There are also lots of great local businesses and shops for souvenirs or everyday needs or just something fun to bring home.
If you're looking for something fun to do outside of the beach, go mini-golfing or to a Jersey Shore BlueClaws game, Laurita Winery, Jenkinson's Aquarium, Six-Flags Great Adventure, and more.
Whether you want to go for a run or just enjoy a day out of the house or hotel, there are plenty of parks across Ocean County as well including Cattus Island County Park in Toms River, Jakes Branch County Park in Beachwood, and John C. Bartlett Jr. County Park at Berkeley Island in Berkeley Township.
You can also enjoy the Barnegat Bay through or at some of these parks or others like Double Trouble State Park in Berkeley Township.
Each town or the county itself also puts on several individual or weekly events throughout the summer in Ocean County as well.
On a nice day, maybe you go crabbing or fishing, golfing, or head to the batting cages.
"If you like to go crabbing, fishing, canoeing, kayaking -- we have all of those and we even have opportunities for people who love their pets, we have a dog park. We found that people want to take their dog out for a walk and they can't go in a regular park because there are children and it's on a leash," Vicari said.
With that in mind, the county went to work on setting up a dog park where the pups can run around without a leash on.
"They love their pets in Ocean County," Vicari said.
