Manchester, NJ man receives sentence for killing a man with his vehicle
The Manchester resident who killed another man with his vehicle while picking up furniture last year has now received his prison sentence.
Kevin Noonan, 63, was sentenced to six years in New Jersey State Prison for Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident Resulting in Death, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer announced on Friday.
He previously entered into a guilty plea for what he did on April 13, 2021, in the death of 69-year old Jack Gotfried of Whiting, which will also lead to Noonan losing his driving privileges for two years to go with a fine of $2,500.00 for pleading guilty to Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident Resulting in Injury or Death.
The victim was giving away some furniture at his Yorketown Parkway residence in Whiting on April 13, 2021.
Noonan came over to pick it up.
Suddenly though, while Gotfried was loading the furniture into Noonan's vehicle, Noonan floored it and hit Gotfried which pinned him between the back of the vehicle and a truck parked in front of his own residence, according to the investigation conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Vehicular Homicide Unit and Manchester Township Police Department Detective Bureau.
Noonan took off and when Manchester Police arrived on the scene, they saw Gotfried laying in the roadway with traumatic injuries to his lower extremities.
Gotfried was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he later passed away from his injuries.
Noonan was found walking a short time later along Western Boulevard in Lacey Township and was arrested by an Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Detective.
He was processed at Manchester Township Police Headquarters and then brought to the Ocean County Jail.
Prosecutor Billhimer also announced Friday that Ocean County Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Robert Cassidy and Ocean County Assistant Prosecutor Victoria Veni handled the case on behalf of the State.
